area behind my radio gets really hot

Hi!!

I have a 2001 chevy blazer, manual transmission, 220k miles and I just had the engine replaced with a used engine from an S10 truck with 88k miles on it.  My car came from California so it is in great shape but they probably never used the heat.

I have had it flushed multiple times for a huge amount of rust in my radiator which has been blocking my heat and or heater core. I now notice after the last time I had it flushed, the area right behind my radio gets so hot it heats up the car. No one wants to tackle replacing the heater core and I think this new symptom is bad, but I don't know what to do.  Can I ignore it or can you give me any suggestions on how to fix this problem??

Thank you so much!!!  :}

Probably the air ducting came loose and it's blowing hot air inside your dash. Pull off the panelling and see what's going on inside. Luckily, GM uses clips for most of so just need to give it a firm tug, but find a repair manual first.

Thank you!!! 🙂

Sounds like the heater is working great.  If there's no antifreeze dripping onto the cabin floor, or no other sign of coolant loss, it suggests there is nothing wrong with your heater core.  I would check the blend door actruator that controls the temperature of the air that exits the ducts.  If you turn the tempertaure knob hot to cold and back, the actuator should move the door back & forth. It could be stuck in the hot position even if the control knob is on cold setting.  I've had to replace the diverter door actuator on my '96 Chev pickup 3 times.  I recommend buying an AC Delco branded actuator if it turns out to be defective.  The dash temperature control could also be defective.  Unfortunately, you probably have to buy the fan/temp/output assembly to fix it. You might be able to find a used one in good condition at a reputable salvage yard.

Thank you so much!! This forum is great...I will look into this!
