Hi, I recently got a 1968 cadillac calais & I'm worried about the crime and car theft in my neighborhood.
I want to know of a good car anti theft immobilizer & car GPS tracker.
Any suggestions highly appreciated
2 things you can do really easy.
You could take the pink wire off the back of the ignition switch.
Get another wire ring terminal, attach a length of wire to it.
Attach that back onto the ignition switch, now you have 2 pieces of wire to attach to a hidden switch under the dash, or in the glove box, or wherever you want

Understand a couple of things. That resistor shown in the diagram isn't like a modern day resistor. It's a "resistor wire".
That's why I say to remove the ring terminal from the ignition switch and use another ring terminal and another piece of wire for the voltage input of your hidden switch. You can cut off the ring terminal and install a spade terminal or whatever the connectors on your switch requires.
And you could do the same thing on the wire that goes from the ignition switch to the "S" terminal of the starter ( I think it's Purple) BUT, if they use a slide hammer to pull your ignition cylinder and the car doesn't start then they could just use a screwdriver to jump the battery terminal to the "S" terminal on the starter and "off they'd go with your car.
You need to understand that your coil is designed to operate on around 8 volts.
But the geniuses at GM understood about voltage drop during cranking.
So when the starter solenoid is engaged, there's a "R" terminal on your starter that bypasses that resistor wire and provides full battery power to the + side of the coil.
When they key is released to the Run position, the starter solenoid is disengaged, Power to the "R" terminal of the starter solenoid is cut off, and Power to the coil goes through the resistor wire.
You can see the "R" terminal right here:

So the reason I like my idea is they won't be able to pop the ignition cylinder and then jump the starter solenoid if the starter doesn't engage with the starter switch..
The car will Start in the Start position, and then immediately die when the ignition switch is turned back to Run.
It will drive them frickin' crazy
Then as a visual deterrent, buy a club

You could remove the rotor from the distributor, and/or substitute a rubber hose for the coil wire.
