I own a 94 single cab Chevy 5.7 engine. And I’m having problems with it recently with the idle. It bounces a bit to much, when I throw it into gear it wants to die sometimes it ends up dying, it completely dies when I turn on the A/C, I’ve change a lot of common things, like the tps sensor, IAC valve, map sensor, cleaned the carburetor, changed the injectors, spark plugs, distributor, egr valve, gas filter, fuel pump seems to be fine. When I also accelerate it kinda bogs and doesn’t take it off, I have to slowly press the gas pedal for it to take of “nice” even then it still bogs, what can it be?
It's not a carburetor.
Tbi my bad
The compression test is an indication of the volumetric efficiency of the engine. Each cylinder is tested individually both dry and wet.
How can I check if my air/fuel ratio is off? I’ve had the truck for a year already it has 265,xxx miles. A month after I got the truck it’s been having this problem, stalling at stop lights parking lots etc I’ve thrown lots of money into the issues no fix, I did however once replaced the map sensor with an oem from the junkyard it was working great for a couple months after that it started having its issue again, couple days ago I sprayed some carb cleaner and it was working great like if nothing happened, went to pump gas day after started having its issue again, I was thinking of putting an edelbrock carb but I just don’t know if it’s worth it at this point
Sounds like your Air to Fuel ratio is off. Might just need a tune up but your either running rich or lean and either isn't good. If your A/F ratio is fine have the fuel pressure tested and make sure you have a clean air filter and it could just be the engines starting to go if all else fails have the compression tested.
How do I know if it’s running to rich or t0 lean? And a tune up meaning like a oil change and air filter, I already did the spark plugs.and you also mentioned have the compression tested, compression of what?
What if I did the tune up like 2 months ago does that matter?
The problem is a lot of things can cause this. Good quality scan tools like one scotty has can check A/F Have your battery and charging system tested and have your fuel pressure tested too. Engines need 3 things Air and Fuel and spark your not getting enough of one or those. Seems like your spray pattern could be off or you might be dripping fuel into the cylinder both can cause this.
Is there any tools you recommend to measure the air fuel ratio?
and are you asking me what you need to do this job on your own? or just want tools you need?
Both actually lol
