Hi everyone,

im looking to buy a 2012 Subaru Outback 2.5L premium wagon for my wife. She doesn’t drive much(Only around 5-7K a year)

it’s price from a dealer at 10,995 - Out the door dealer fees + sales tax is around $12K

I like the Subarus, but I’m not very educated on them, but my wife loves it. I’ve headed a lot of problems can accrue over 100K Mi from water pumps, timing belt, and transmission issues.

I plan to get it inspected, but I was hoping to get more feedback with anyone that is more educated.

Does anyone have any opinions?

thanks a lot!

That's a ripoff price for a 12-year-old Outback.

The 2012 model has the older design 2.5 boxer engine with timing belt and is very prone to blowing head gaskets. If there is no proof that the gaskets have already been changed you can count on having to do that job and it costs $$$$. Timing belt replacement is expensive and is overdue if that one is still original. Also that car has an early version of Subaru's "Lineartronic" CVT which is very likely on its last legs.

I'd run away screaming from that deal.

Well I'm not a fan of older Subarus because they tend to leak oil from the engines as they age cuz they use a lot of glue instead of gaskets to keep engine parts from leaking oil. I'd much rather go for something like a Toyota or a Honda

If you're considering a use Subaru, you want to check out MrSubaru1387

Even he says you need to be careful with used Subaru.

Avoid Used Subarus older than 2013 due to changes in the engine. Subarus after this are okay.
