In real life conversations, how do you refer to driving a manual transmission?

Manual does derive from hand = manus.

I usually referred to it as a Stick or Stick Shift.  For example, "Can you drive a stick?"

Just "stick". A car is either "auto" or "stick". {black}:laughingoutloud:  


Stick is my preference.

I say “manual” or “stick”.

Though I don't drive one I always refer to one as Manual Transmission.

I have never called it stick or standard like lots of mr. americans call it.

 

In my primary language I say "do you drive manual car?" Another way of saying it is "straight" transmission.

As someone who just bought and started driving one of these, I usually say stick shift or manual (transmission). I also forgot you can say standard to describe them til reading this poll.


Yeah man, I don't think I have ever called it a standard (transmission) either, at least on my own.
