Took my car to a body shop in my insurer's network to have a stolen catalytic converter replaced on a Prius. They use a nearby muffler shop for exhaust repairs and this shop put on a universal catalytic converter as a replacement which proved to be faulty. The part is being replaced with the correct direct fit part but both the body shop and insurance company are telling me that the other is at fault for selecting the wrong part initially. It seems to me that the insurance company approved the part in the end so they are the ones mainly at fault, correct?
It might be partially your fault, too. In most states you have right to take it anywhere you want to. That's the case, here in Texas, for example. So, the first thing to do is to read your policy.
The second faulty actor is the muffler shop. Whether out of ignorance, greed or stupidity, they put on the wrong unit.
Then, there's the adjuster. They know better.
Go up the chain of command to the district office, for both the insurer and insurance company. Write it up on social media. Call your local news investigative reporting team. File fraud claims with your state attorney general.
Good luck.
I took it to a body shop in the insurers network because they offer what looks like a solid guarantee. The body shop told me they could absolutely have the repair done with no problem so all things considered I thought it would be done correctly. Ive already spoken with a supervisor who fixed everything from but Im just curious who dropped the ball in the first place
The shop. They knew better.
Thanks. I have a feeling they don't work on a lot of hybrids. Luckily I was able to get through to a supervisor at the insurance company who made things right but it was a pain getting there
