Bought a 2008 Mercury Sable Premier AWD. 209k. Interior looks 99.9% new condition. Loaded. All options work. Amazing! Tranny ok. Everything under the hood, is in really rough condition. Ran ok when test drove. I was not even aware of Kilmer's existence until 2 months ago. I have become an OBD numskull and decided to just do a few things. Cylinder 6 misfire. Simple right? Wow. Save me. I have bought so much equipment, and I'm in so deep. Manuals, Multiple part store accounts, Parts. Sparkplugs. COPs. Throttle bodies. MAF clean. Three times removing Upper intake manifold. It is the ground signal wire that goes to the PCM. Now I realize the wiring harness and sensor connections bad. Damaged wire patches. Bad O 2 sensors. And more. It has consumed me. Reminder: interior is flawless and loaded.SUPER sound system. Factory. Do I throw in the towel? Drive it on 5 cylinders and burn it up in in 5 months or attempt to run new signal ground wire splices towards the PCM in hopes that the PCM is not fried????
Have you heard your mechanic's opinions when buying all these parts for all the problems or are you just hoping it works? Like the Byzantines said when the Ottomans were taking over Constantinople, hope will get you killed.
It seems you are just wasting your money. IMO the car's value is near nothing so you shouldn't be buying so many parts for it, just for it to not work and something else to break on top of it.
I think its time to say good-bye.
IMHO, one lesson to take away from this is to get a thorough general inspection BEFORE you buy any used vehicle.
The other lesson is to do holistic diagnosis before "firing the parts cannon."

This is rather like falling in love with the wrong woman, regardless of how stunningly beautiful she may be. If the chemistry's wrong, it's wrong.
There's a term for what you're doing: The fallacy of the sunk cost.
In sum: Stop putting time and dollars into that money pit. And, in future, don't fall in love with any vehicle to the point that your critical faculties are disabled. Make your decisions in line with the first two sentences of this post.
I apologize. I knew straight on that this car needed alot of repairs to maintain its usability. I did actually have a mechanic look it over. His information was the code for Cyl. 6. primary, secondary faults. Needs tie rods. I only bought this car for temporary. 6 months. Recently taking up interest in performing many jobs a mechanic would have done for me in the past. I am gaining a hands on educational experience value that I am paying for. And loving it. Was simply frustrated yesterday. I am back on track. Diagnosing the signal ground is not functioning per the PCM. The connectivity is good Throughout the engine points. So my final evaluation is inspecting the PCM. Removing it. If necessary for repair if possible. Thank you all for input. I am firing every parts canon I can on this! Because I want to. And am learning tons. Especially from SCOTTY!!!
