Is a 2001 Nissan Frontier 2 dr SE 4WD King Cab short bed worth $7500 if it's in really good condition? It's got 72k miles on it.
I'm looking for a nice used vehicle for pulling around a little teardrop camper trailer that weighs about 1500 - 2000 lbs.
The vehicle I found is a 2001 Nissan Frontier - it looks super nice on the outside and you can tell it's been well maintained and definately garaged.
I plan on going 2.5 hours to see it in person- but the dealer is asking $7500 for it. Which I think is about $1000 over what it's worth even though I have yet to see it. If it all pans out and is decent - do you think the price is worth it? This is the listing:
2001 Nissan Frontier
72,270 miles
Certainly NOT from any dealer.
I know, I hate to haggle with dealers. It's just that inventory is scarce especially good deals and I haven't seen any trucks sitting out along the road with a for sale sign. 🙂
It's 21 years old, not worth it at that price, imho. good luck
Thanks. Yes, I agree - it's excessive but have you looked at the inventory and what they're asking? Jeesh.
I wouldn't buy from any dealer, regardless if you find a private seller with a truck in similar shape just be sure to get that mileage verified (paperwork because odometers & computers can be changed, fedex got sued for selling trucks in that manner).
No matter how pretty it may be have a mechanic check it out, preferably one the seller is unlikely to know. I got burned on my last purchase because they hid every issue so well.
Had I taken the time to have an unbiased set of eyes look it over, he would've spotted a ton of things I missed. Knowing what I found post purchase working on it, $500 would have been my best offer & that's being generous. As soon as I'm fixing one thing, another part fails.
Video on the fedex truck story:
I’m diehard Nissan and that’s way too much for that truck. They didn’t age the best and fuel economy is not great. They run forever and you Can’t kill them but they rot . It’s like the old hardbody’s the power train is solid and damn near bulletproof but the bodies will fade faster. Until you see it in person it could be an awesome truck and super clean but not worth that much money.
You mentioned above that inventory is scarce, and well thats, the problem. They can ask/charge whatever they want. The fact that its king cab & 4WD is driving the cost up here. I'd try to knock the price down, I mean yeah its low mileage considering the age, but that thing probably has a 21 year old water pump/fuel pump/ alternator/ injectors, the list goes on for parts that can fail just due to age. Who even knows if the 4WD system is working with no problems. I think 6k is a decent price. These trucks are solid overall.
If you dont need a king cab & 4WD, try looking for trucks without them, you can save $$$ just by not getting those options
