Is A Kia Soul worth buying used?

Are there are decent years of Kia Souls worth buying?

@moox27
Honda Fits (pre-2014) as well as the Honda HR-V as good options. 2012-2014 Honda CR-V is also a better option. Kia Soul's are alright but not the best all the cars above will last at least 2 to 3 times the amount the Kia will.

Low end entry cars. They are improving, problem is they depreciate faster than Honda Toyota, I recommend Toyota.

@jackofall
Thanks for the reply. It’s my girlfriend who is looking. She seems set on a Soul. Just wondering is there was any year to avoid for sure.

But to your Toyota suggest, would there by a model priced similarly to Soul but more reliable that a Soul?

Hy!

I suggest you check a site about Kia Soul problems (check this link).

For similar prices and better reliability, you can take a look on Toyota Corolla.

Good luck.

@g-t
Thanks for the link, it had some good info. I had remember reading something about fires with Souls. My girlfriend’s looking at 2018 Soul, I will try to get her to look at a Corolla. She’s in a 2000 CR-V right now. She seems to want something small SUVish as opposed to a sedan.

I’d rather get a C-HR or a HR-V instead of the Kia. They both will last 3 times longer than the Kia.

But truth be told, they’re just glorified hatchbacks and I would personally choose between the RAV4 or CR-V if I was buying for myself.

@inthrustwetrust
Thanks for your suggestion. She’s in a 2000 CR-V. She wants a much newer car. The newer CR-V is a bit out of her price range, which is why she looked to the Soul. But maybe she should keep looking, or try to look at a sedan.

@MooX27
As Scotty says, the Corolla/Civic or Camry/Accord is usually sufficient for the needs of most people. Plus you get better gas mileage.
What’s wrong with her present CR-V?

@inthrustwetrust
It’s AC has stopped working. It makes a weird “electronic” grinding sound when she starts it up and the engine turns over. But it still runs fairly well for the 200,000 miles on it. I think she just mostly wants an update car, with more features.

@MooX27
In that case a recent Corolla or Civic will be her best bet to satiate her quest for features while still being cheaper than the equivalent Soul/HR-V.

@inthrustwetrust
Thanks. I will let her know. Right now, for my job, I’m out of state, so I’m not there as she’s looking.

@MooX27
I’m sure you already know, but more so because a lady is car shopping, it’s IMPERATIVE she has the vehicle checked thoroughly by an honest mechanic, before she buys it. All the best mate.

@inthrustwetrust
Yep, definitely will have her take any car to a mechanic before she buys. I am suggesting she waits until I get back (not that I am all that knowledgeable... which is why I am asking for advice from you guys) . She seems to want something sooner. So, perhaps there is a new problem her CR-V has developed since I have been gone. But thanks again for your input.

How many miles does she hav on current car?  Maybe a good detailing to "renew" the one she has would be good enough.  Maybe it is more emotional than necessary.

We have a 2013 Soul Exclaim.  Has a upgraded Kenwood radio so was probably driven by younger people.  The only problem, the steering knocking, was fixed free of charge by a Kia dealer.  Took a few minutes and we even got a spare "new" part.  The 80,000 mile motor problem has a long way to go for us but we do go anywhere, at any legal (plus or minus) speed limit.

But as sure as The Devil Loves A Sinner if I tell you to go buy a Soul the one you pick will turn to manure and you will say that guy online told me to do it.   LOLOL!!

Good luck!

Currently 200,000ish on the CR-V.

Still going strong or a money pit? If still going, go with it. Make car payments into a personal savings account for the next car she is forced to drive. It might be all electric.

They are not excellent cars but they are good. The 2010-2012 with 2.0 are reliable and the 2014-2016 are also great. They will last about 130k max so don't buy one with higher mileage and don't pay more than 10 grand.
