Is an 88' Lincoln Town Car L5 sedan a good idea?

I'm interested in a two owner, 1988 Lincoln Town Car with about 102k miles under the belt and with an asking price of $2,950. I've been doing some research into it but there seems to be some mixed feelings. I was wondering if this would be a reliable, durable first car and if the old dinosaur would be able to daily drive for a hand full of years, especially in the snow and cold. Please let me know if this would be a good decision or if I'm just getting myself into an endless pit of debt. Thank you.

IMHO this is a $1000.00 dollar car unless it is in pristine condition. The 5.0 was in the early days of emission standards 4000 pound vehicle with 150hp was..well..where we were.

Like Scotty has said any old car like the town car is going to have age related issues. A lot of the wear parts are failing if they have not been replaced recently. But the 302 is known to be a decent engine if it has been taken care of and it is a big/safe car for how old it is. It won't have ABS so that can made slick roads harder to navigate.

A 2000+ crown victora would be a better option in my opinion. It is a much newer car on basically the same platform. It has 4 wheel abs and traction control. They are also similarly priced to your $2,950. Also the 4.6l V8 is modern and will get better mpg than the old 302.
