Hey Scotty!

I would LOVE to buy a honda cr-v 2003 like you suggested, but sadly there are so few in my area(Michigan) and only dealerships are selling em for crazy prices with high mileage. I'd kill for one! So I saw your other vid on recommended cars and you mentioned a toyota corolla 2012. Now I can't afford a 2012, but I found a 03 toyota corolla LE(I wish it wasn't LE). Sadly, it is a dealership pricing it at 4,991 and the car has 126,6000 miles, 5 speed manual, front wheel drive, 28-32 mpg, they have a photo of a symbol on their webpage and the symbol is that "check engine light" symbol on their webpage and it says "14" under it, I am not sure what that means? I was trying to fig out if it was a 4 cylinder like you recommend, but I am still learning about cars and I couldn't find it anywhere. Just curious on your thoughts, of course I would try to talk the dealer down some, but what do you think? I am very early in my car search I got a 02 chevy silverado with a badass led zeppelin sticker I put on the back, and she will run for prob a couple more yrs, but I'd like to start my search now as between both of our vehicles one will eventually go. My fiance has a 08 pontiac G8 and let me tell you, WE HATE THAT THING! Now, before you judge, we got the car for free. It was a graduation gift from my fiances cousin when my fiance graduated from university of michigan in accounting(can you tell I'm proud?). Of course, we were beyond grateful! But let me tell ya, this thing is a piece. We have put almost 2k into this thing, its got about 180k miles on it. So who knows how long it will last? Now the front sway bar is broke too, like c'mon! My fiances cousin is the type who goes into crazy debt for a nice vehicle, and we just aren't, we'll spend about 5k on a nice used vehicle and make her last. Before we were done with college we were lucky to spend 1,400 on a vehicle! lol the adventures of being broke college students! We are very much debt free when it comes to credit cards and buying vehicles and have saved and saved to buy a decent used vehicles. I want to spend about 5k on a used vehicle. Any recomendations? Also I thought about maybe a little chevy aveo 2012? Just found your channel and we love your energy! Your like the youtube dad always scolding his kids for spending to much on vehicles(LOL) happy to see ya moved enjoy tennesee! We can't wait to get out of Michigan so we feel ya!

Forget about the Chevy Aveo, the standard "pile of junk" is what they are.

As for the Corolla, that generation is infamous for problems with manual transmissions. I would pass. If the engine is "I4" that means inline 4 cylinder engine. All Corollas of all time have came with 4 cylinder engines as far as I'm aware. If it was an automatic and priced a couple grand less then I would have jumped on the deal.

Thank you so much! I also watched one of scottys vids and saw to never buy from a dealer. I am just going to have to be patient in my search until the right one comes along!(for a good price)

@Tasha1992 you can buy from a dealer, but you have to be very careful. Also, always have an independent, honest mechanic thoroughly check out the vehicle before you buy it.

Dealers are good places as well as long as the price is good and a mechanic checks it out.

thanks!

yea skip the Aveo without question, go with a Honda or Toyota for the most trouble free car period. just make sure you do your research & avoid the problem years for both brands (i.e. the Toyota oil burners)

Thank you!

Forget the Aveo, it is even worse than the G8. The Corolla has a 4 cylinder engine. The manual transmissions on those years are known to be weak but otherwise they are solid cars. If you are okay with the price then go ahead and buy it.

thanks! Wow didn't know they were worse than the G8, we really hate that thing, so I am staying away from the aveo. What a bummer too, they are dirt cheap!

Unfortunately there is a reason why they are dirt cheap.

Aveo’s, at least the manual trans ones I have seen are always missing a gear. Usually 2nd or 4th. Some guys say synchronizers , some say guide forks. But either way they just can’t shift into those gears anymore. No grinding, just like the gear fairy removed the option. Like the shifter forgets it is there won’t even let you try. Not to mention at least 2 I know of needed clutches before 60k

Thank you! From what I gathered everyone is saying skip the aveo so that is what I will do. I am def gonna keep trying so hard to find a 03 honda crv(or newer model) but man they are far and few between where I live.

Is there something about the CRV that makes it a must have? Or you just want something in that size? Another option for you most don’t know about. From 2004-2007 saturn vues were actually built with a honda 3.5 liter engine and automatic transmission. If you see a 2004-2007 with V6 or V6 AWD on the back, yep it’s actually a honda in disguise. GM did produce the body and some electronics but overall they hold up fairly well when maintained properly.

well scotty recommended it, and I really do love the style of the car. I love those cute, sporty looking foreing SUVs. I am def interested in other models of honda or toyotas too, I am pretty sure I won't find a CR-V in Michigan for a good price with low mileage too so I may have to abandon the idea of getting a cr-v. I will keep looking, but I have expanded my search to really most honda or toyotas. Also I had no clue the Vues were hondas basically. Funny enuf my mom has a saturn vue, a 07 I believe or 09? I think its a solid car actually, and runs great! I never thought about getting one of those, I will keep my eyes peeled now that I know that! Thanks!

Only 04-07 with the V6 used honda drivetrain. 2003 V6 was a crap cadillac 3.0L motor. Then Saturn switched to Honda drivetrain for the V6 FWD and AWD. Honda and GM had a falling out over antifreeze. 🤣 08-10 then had the crappy GM 3.6 liter.
