Hi everyone!

So I have a 2017 Hyundai Tucson SE 2WD automatic, 59K miles. Bought it at a Ford dealership (stupid I know) with 35K miles and I honestly love it! I’ve been keeping up with all the maintenance schedules.

PSA: SORRY ABOUT THE WEIRD DESCRIPTION IM A GIRL AND NOT VERY FAMILIAR WITH CAR TALK

I have noticed recently that when I’m in drive, idling at stop lights and have been sitting there for more than about 30 seconds the car almost feels like it’s shifting a gear and there’s quite a strong vibration that you can feel in the driver and passenger seat and the car feels like it’s running kind of rough. It stops as soon as I step off the brake and start moving. It doesn’t happen every time but it’s frequent. has anyone else had this problem or have an idea what it is? Is it normal?

A lot of things can cause rough idle or vibration getting into the vehicle. Is the check engine light on? Has it been scanned for diagnostic codes? If that car was older I'd say engine and/or transmission mounts may be going bad. With Hyundai, who knows, maybe the mounts are shot after 4 years. Best to have a good independent mechanic check it out for you.

check engine light isn't on and it hasn't been scanned. thank you for the advice! 🙂

Does it only happen in D gear? Not in P or N right? What about R?

Yes it only happens in D

Usually, the transmission is to blame for that.

Ok, do you know anything about how serious it is? like should i take it in soon or can it be put off ?

Not serious at all. You can just keep driving it like that until it gives up completely. I don't think you will like the cost of replacing the transmission.

yeaaaaa I'd ldefinetly love to keep the money in my wallet instead of my transmission lol. Wait until a light comes on it is! thanks for your help !!

Just have it checked out but stay away from dealerships and NEVER go to chain shops like Firestone, Midas, or Pep Boys. Check with friends, relatives, co-workers, etc. for a trustworthy independent mechanic in your area to see what's going on with it.

Ah looks like other owners are experiencing issues as well:

Sorry to say, but goodbye transmission.

The transmission problems from that link seem different than what I've been experiencing. Are you suggesting maybe that is what my problem will turn into? Because the only issue I have is the shaking sometimes at stops?

I was just refering to the transmission being new and complicated so there are some issues.
There are lots of issues that I saw from the site like lurching from a stop, coasting from a stop, shuddering at a stop, not being able to accelerate from a stop. I guess Hyundai wants your SUV to blow up at a stop so its a safety feature to not let it move.

I'm not sure what exactly is going on but it definitely is a transmission issue. Good luck anyways.

oh ok well thank you for the link and the advice !
