Hey everyone! I have a 2016 Miata with about 61,000 miles that has a potential problem with the temperature reading that is also discussed in this forum. At first I thought it could maybe be the thermostat but thought at 60k miles surely the thermostat isn't broken yet and according to the people in the forum they say that the temperature reading below 210 is normal and was wondering if this is correct, because 210 is barely anything on the temperature gauge. So with this problem comes 2 questions 1 is this normal and 2 why on earth would Mazda make it so hard to read the temperature gauge. Looking at other car designs with the dial reading directly in the middle seems so logical and to change it makes no sense to me.
Thermostats are typically 180 to 190 degrees, so a 210 degree running temperature would be perfectly normal. (It's just below the boiling point of plain, unpressurized water. Not too cold!) As far as why the temperature gauge is designed that way you'd have to ask the Mazda engineers.
I would check your temperature sending unit. They get crudded up over time and send false signals to the gauge. Also, check your owner's manual for a picture of what normal operating temperature looks like on your gauge.
