Scotty,
I have an '06 Acura TSX - Gen 1 that used to get 40 mpg on the highway if I drove like an old person.
Since about 130,000 miles, the fuel economy has gotten significantly worse; and with 175,000 miles now, I barely crack 30 mpg on the highway doing 55 mph, and that's immediately after filling up with PREMIUM (93 octane) gasoline.
I'd love to keep the car because it still runs and looks great...maintaining it for my son's first car.
Other than the poor mileage, the only thing I've noticed is the slow idle; it's a little rough...not terrible, but it seems a little 'slow' (650 rpms).
Here's what I've done so far:
I bought the code reader you (Scotty) recommended - the engine isn't throwing any codes.
I had a Honda mechanic install new plugs
He also adjusted my valves.
Both uplink and downlink O2 sensors were also replaced.
I bought new tires, and inflated them to recommended pressure.
I just sent off for a new 'Air Charge Sensor' from Standard Motor Products (PN: AX 70) and just bought a can of CRC throttle body cleaner.
There doesn't seem to be a 'Mass Air Flow' sensor for an '06 TSX.
When the new part arrives, I will clean the throttle body and replace the old Air Charge Sensor with the new one.
Other than what I've done, is there anything you'd recommend?
BTW - you did a 'live' show a few weeks ago and you answered my question - but I'm not 'horsing it around town'. I'm driving it like the old person I am at 63.
By the time I get through a tank of premium gas, the mpg indicator often says I'm only getting 18 or 19 mpg.
Another mechanic tells me it's the current mix of gas. He says it was much different 13 years ago when I first bought the car (in Florida) and was getting 40 mpg on the highway.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts, Scotty...big fan here on Long Island, NY.

You mechanic is right. There aren't many thngs today that are as good as they used to be. I'd make sure you have a clean air filter and, if you have one, a new PCV valve.
There is apparently no PCV valve in a Gen-1 TSX.
You can try some fuel inejctor cleaners as well.
With the scan tool, check the fuel trims and provide the number here.
Fuel Trims? Not sure what that is...there was one measured value that was on the (VERY) high side of passing; 34,7xx with the limit being 34,8XX.
It doesn't have a MAF sensor but it does have a MAP sensor. I would replace it.

Go down to Advance Auto and tell them to throw these away

Then there are about 8000 auto parts stores selling them like hot cakes that are delusional.
