Hello!
I recently bought a used 2010 Kia rondo with 145k on the ODO (i know scotty and most people here are not going to like the sound of that but need a car and in canada where i am there are so little options for used cars, haha) and everything checked out in the inspection of the car, motor sounds really good, looks good, the transmission was a bit slow but realized eco mode was on, steering is smooth all the oil was clean, brakes felt solid and responded well, car fax (not 100% reliable but eh) said the title was clean and normal, second owner bought it from her friend barely drove the car, probably drove the car 3000-5000kms in the 1 and a half years she had it, had to replace the catalytic convertor and put in a new muffler (they gave me the receipt and warranty for that replacement) did an alignment, got new tires, then got a new car and didn't have space in her apartment block parking so she sold it to me etc etc,
Nothing seemed wrong, I've been driving it for a week and i commute a lot 20-25km back and forth everyday and started hearing squeaking at the back of the car where the right tire is, I assumed it was brakes but the check engine light came on so i figured the issues were connected cause they came on at the same time. The squeaking also wasn't present the next day in the morning on my drive to work but then came back half-way through the trip when I brake and then it kind of lingers after a lot of use of the brake without me braking like just driving normally (so maybe the calipers are being weird?)
So my question is could they have deleted the codes and issues that were present be poping back up, I mean them not changing their break pads and not telling me is pretty rude but understandable since they got a new car - maybe they didnt even know the issue was there - do break issues cause the engine light to come on? Does this look bad and should I consider trying to get my money back I paid 3700 for it so I thought it was a pretty decent deal, but if im gonna keep running into major problems already I'm gonna hound them and get my money back.
What's the code you got?
I actually havent checked I never bought a reader (i watched those videos after unfortunately) I'm hoping I can get a speculation to ease my anxiety till i see a mechanic on friday and the squeaking has gotten worse, then actually goes away, then comes back, very strange. should i avoid driving it in general?
Of the check engine light is not flashing and the driving safety is not compromised, it can be ok to drive.
ty for your help! the code was actually for the gas cap, with these rondos in particular as they age the sensor is a bit faulty and if you take off the cap a little rough it can trip the sensor so it wasnt a big deal, I found a decent mechanic that sold me some crap but its a used car I was gonna need a new battery and brakes regardless, what can you do - and it was just the brakes squeaking, easy fix I got a whole other problem now but ill make a new question for that 🙁
