hi scotty

i am a canadian retired in the philippines.

i am looking for a good used vehicle.

i'm looking at a 2007 nissan xtrail 4x4 with 169,000kms for $7,000 and a 2014 2014 🔥KIA SORENTO 4X4 2.2 dohc CRDi diesel turbo fuel injected!!🔥

for $9,000. which do you think would be a better buy. of course no salt here and diesel engines are better i think. i think repairs parts are accessable on both vehicles.

thank you

hope your doing well i love your well informed videos.

If you’re okay with diesel vehicles, search for a Fortuner or Pajero. They have a reputation of being indestructible.

You’d want to do thorough research before you buy a vehicle. Ask around the local mechanics if they can (and are willing to) work on the vehicle you’re planning to purchase.

As with any used vehicle, have it thoroughly inspected by a professional mechanic, before purchase.

Maybe @dan has something to add for both the vehicles you’re considering.

All the best!

Diesel? What generation?

If it's a 2nd generation 2.0L diesel,

then it's fine, a very durable engine - the main thing to watch out for is issues with the Bosch fuel system.

As far the transmission, it's a small transverse 6 speed automatic mated to a very torquey engine - constant ATF replacements and moderate driving are absolutely required.

As good as the 6 speed is, It is not a good transmission for 4x4 use cases.

2014 Kia Sorento 4X4 2.2 (...) CRDi

Another good engine - but it is more problematic and it's NOT bulletproof.

Same for the transmission, Although it's a decent unit - it's arguably worse than the X-Trail's 6 speed auto, Extensive off-road use or infrequent ATF changes lead to severe internal issues - but for some people it can last a lot more.

It's a difficult choice, it mainly comes down to the 7 year age difference and to the Nissan being early Renault-Nissan product when quality was questionable and had a lot of variance and this generation of the diesel Sorento being not as bulletproof as a diesel should be.

I'd go with wether one seems to be in better condition.
