Knock knock Sensors

Hello,

My wife and I bought a 1992 Toyota 4Runner 3.0 V6 Automatic with 4x4.

when we bought it, it came with a check engine light on and symptoms. Some of the symptoms were,Difficulty climbing to speed, The vehicle would stall out when in drive when not pressing on the pedal, and the motor sounded like a Go Kart rather than a V6.

I took it to a shop to get the codes looked at. the codes are OBD1 format and I have a 21( oxygen sensor) 24( intake air temp sensor) and a 52( knock sensor). The guy at the shop recommended replacing the distributor as that would get rid of the code. Unfortunately this didn’t work and I was out $520. The codes remained and the guy suggested that the oxygen sensor and knock sensor needed to be replaced . I was pretty burnt by this so I took it home.

I was looking around the engine bay and I felt air coming from the bottom pipe that connects to the EGR valve. In fact the pipe had rusted out where the nut fastens the two parts.

Question 1. Would this leak be the reason for these sensors?

Question 2. Should I delete my EGR sensor, Replace the parts, or get a Welder to weld a sleeve over the leak?

Thank you so much in advance

OBD1 has a real limited vocabulary of codes and that leak could certainly throw things off. I'd start by replacing that pipe if the part is available. and it's feasible to do so. After 30 years it's probably badly rusted in place and things may break trying to remove it. If that looks like the case welding a sleeve over it may be the better approach.
