Leaking valve cover gasket 2022 Civic

I have a 2022 Honda Civic Sport 18,500 miles. Valve cover gasket is leaking oil. Dealer says this is normal seepage and can only fix under warranty if it gets worse. I’m thinking of calling Honda corporate. Should I bother or will I just get the run around? Thanks!

I have a 2024 Civic Sport and fortunately do not have this problem, but it is a common problem with the K20 motors in the Civic and HR-V. Those do not use rubber gaskets for the valve cover. Rather, they use silicone sealer and the excess sealer is visible in multiple areas around the valve cover. If I were you, I would get a second opinion from another Honda dealer. if they give you the same crap, call corporate. Scotty explains in this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFwxr0sOIFo

Thanks for the advice and video link. I’ve made an appointment at another dealer to get a second opinion. Definitely bummed my 2015 civic with the 1.8 liter never leaked a drop of oil anywhere .

It's not "normal seepage", otherwise, they wouldn't put valve cover gaskets in cars. Valve cover gaskets aren't designed to leak or weep at all. I would call Honda corporate.

@justin-shepherd leaky valve covers @ 18k miles on a 2 year old car are normal? really!

@hixster - probably a plastic valve cover, maybe slightly warped or cracked. Plastic engine parts are such a stupid idea. I'm glad that nothing I own has anything like that.

Nothing quite like planned obsolesce. Charge as much as possible for new cars, make as much as possible out of cheap plastic, repeat.

I happened to run across a fluid and filter change video for one of those Ford 10-speed truck transmissions. My jaw just about dropped seeing that the transmission pan looked to be made out of plastic!

{pear}:surprised:

I'll miss my 1999 Ranger when I need to buy another car. I still only have one good arm, and I definitely can't weld with it. I'm left side dominant and the brain cancer affected my left side, lol. Frame rust hasn't progressed any further that I can see. Almost everything is still metal.

@justin-shepherd this planned obsolescence crap is just absurd. My 85 Tacoma SR5 auto got 24 City/31 Hwy and never had any problems, none. It was like your Ranger, built right. Building a sturdy, reliable, durable vehicle apparently is no longer smart.. so sad.

@hixster Unfortunately, no reliability has taken the 3rd row of an SUV. Tech is the latest and greatest. When I back up in my 2017 Mustang, I still instinctively check my rear-view mirror instead of my backup camera, and it came with one. People are lazy. I had a recall for that backup camera, I haven't bothered taking it to the dealership, I can turn my head, lol. It takes like 1/1000th of a calorie.
