I’m a broke college student and I’m pretty tall? I wanted a reliable large size sedan that will last me for the next 5 years. I have around a 10k budget, what is a better car Lexus es350 2013 or Toyota Avalon 2013, I had a 2015 Hyundai Sonata but the engine broke down?? Any suggestions???

"I'm a broke college student".

Get the Avalon. Cheaper all around and very reliable.

I guess the definition of "broke" has changed to "can't afford a new car".

Both are excellent cars, but here are some things to note:

2013-2014 Avalons are problematic as that is the start of the generation, same risk for the ES350. If I were you I would save the money and get the previous generation of Avalon or ES

Lexus cars are just as reliable as Toyotas, but come with higher long term maintenance and repair costs.

Lexus is a luxury automaker, which needs to compete with brands like Volvo, BMW, and Mercedes. This competition also includes styling. A premium car would be made stylish. The Toyota equivalents of Lexus cars are almost always more practical than Lexus.

The conclusion I would make is, you are broke, so why spend the money to get the next generation of either, and why pay for the maintenance and repair of a luxury car brand? You are tall, so why get a car with less interior room? I think the 2007-2012 Avalon suits you.

On a seperate note, never buy a Hyundai ever again.

If you are broke I don't see how you are getting $10k but if all you want is a big car just get an Avalon, the Lexus is nicer and if you think it is worth the small amount of extra money go for it but just get something you can afford.

Have them both checked out by a mechanic and if clean bill of health, test drive both and see which you like better. They're both reliable Toyota products.

I would get the avalon with your situation from 2005-2012 because they are just better for your budget. Also, when you get a lexus over a toyota, realize that it is a luxury brand. It will feel more premium and it will also age better over time. When you see 25 year old toyota's, they just seem so ugly and super dated, but when I see 25 year old lexus's they don't look too bad, they kind of have a timeless look that not all toyota's achieve. But, cheap toyota's still resell for a lot in the long run and can even go for as much as a lexus in the long run because luxury cars are more for rich people with the maintneance and the premium gas and the extra stuff you have ti do to pamper a luxury car. But toyota's can just go further with minimal maintneance and the crappy cheap gas. The point is that no broke people start out with luxury cars. My dad never had a luxury car in his life or even a fully loaded car ever and he is 60 years old and owns 3 buildings. He has a lot of money and even he buys the cheap honda's.
