Lincoln Town Car maintenance

Topic starter

I recently bought a 1998 Lincoln Town Car with 90k miles. It came with a lot of oil change and tire rotation receipts but nothing else. I found the owners manual and maintenance booklet and saw things like coolant changes, transmission fluid changes, and PCV replacements that should have been done thousands of miles ago. Are these things I should be having done now since I have no evidence that they’ve been done? Is there anything else I should be having done to keep this car running a good long time?

I would add spark plugs to your list and have the rest of the ignition system checked.

Howdy,

I've owned a number of these cars, Crown Vics, Marquis, and Town Cars.  They will run a long time with basic maintenance.  If you cannot verify the fluid changes, I would do a trans service, coolant flush and change, and brake fluid flush and change.  Some would say you don't have to do all those now, but I am a very proactive car owner when it comes to maintenance.  You're car is 23 years old.  I would do all those, as well as check the A/C refrigerant pressure. PCV? Sure, do it.  It's not expensive.  Cool part is you know the oil in the engine was changed.  A lot of people ignore doing that. Also, have the airbags on the air-ride suspension inspected.  If they are cracked and leaking air slowly.  The air pump will keep turning on, draining your battery.

Also, hook up a code scanner to check for service codes.
