Hello,
my 2010 honda accord is having a long crank. i have to put it to ignition first then crank but its struggling a little to start. Brand new battery, clean air filter, all fluids clean and new, I never run the car out of gas or top off the tank.
When I looked it up it says i need a new fuel pump. How much would the part go for?
And is this info sound right?
Likely the results of your search is right. Get measure of the fuel pressure at the rail during cranking. It is almost 100% a fuel issue.
@cjbman
the car is only 62k miles what could have caused this? the previous owner let it run out of gas?
Either the previous owner put in bad gas and gummed it up and caused the pump to overwork or running it out of gas will cause failure.
@cjbman
any idea how much the part would cost?
@cjbman
it also seems to use more fuel than normal i guess i know why now
Difficult, or struggling start often means flooding: … rich fuel mixture, dripping injectors, et al. Try following: … press the accelerator to the floor (do not pump the pedal!) before turning a key and see if that makes a difference. On Honda’s at least, pressing the accelerator to the floor first, allows for unloading the engine of extra fuel - let’s more air into the engine. It’s a design feature built in into most fuel injection systems, …

Hello, I tried that and its starting better. Do I have to keep gas pedal down while cranking, or just press down, removed than crank? Thanks
Put the pedal down, hold it, … than crank it. Starts, … let it go!
Now, that helps, … we know now that too much fuel is being injected at start up. That should be addressed. Clean mass air flow sensor, throttle body. See how that works out. Scotty has a good vid on how to do this, … just follow his advise.
Best,

Most likely fuel pressure regulator which go out at high mileage on these cars
Honda fuel pump lasts almost the life of the car
@mrrangerzr1
from what it looks like its going out already. and car is only 62k miles
