Low Oil Pressure While Idling

Topic starter

I have a 2008 Toyota Sequoia with 206,000 miles. If I sit at a light or in traffic for some time, I notice the oil pressure start to drop. I put it in Neutral and the pressure returns to normal. Could this be the Oil Pressure Switch or (hopefully not) the pump? Thanks....David

Check the oil pressure with a gauge screwed into the sending unit port to verify if the pressure is actually low or you just need a new pressure sending unit.

I would not replace the starter until or unless it starts giving you problems.

More than likely, it’s the oil pressure unit. Higher idle (engine speed) higher pressure. I have found that a lot of Honda/Toyota sensors and components are good for about 200,000 miles, on average. Just replaced a starter on my 2006 Accord with 231,000 miles. Some research showed the factory starter was a 200,000 mile unit.

Thanks guys! Do you recommend that I replace the starter with this mileage? I have no idea if it was done prior to me buying it last July.
