Hey scotty, I drive a 1999 Lexus LS400 with 172000 miles. I just bought it a couple months ago and it has given me no problems at all. Within the past could of days I noticed it started overheating. I took it to my friend who is a mechanic and mentioned it could be the thermostat and/or clutch fan assembly. I replaced both and no luck. The car still overheats and I'm not too sure what else I can do. The water pump was replaced at 165000 miles so I'm sure it isn't that. I'm a little worried but it IS a Toyota so I'm not overly worried.
Under what conditions is it overheating? Is the 23-year-old radiator clogged?
I didn't even think about the radiator. Any tips on how to check if it's clogged?
If clogged there will be cold spots corresponding to areas where coolant is blocked. Although this can be checked by hand an infrared thermometer would be best.
