Hey guys I'm really into mercedes and bmws and all the crappy cars scotty talks abt unfortunately but I saw on one of his old videos he said that the mercedes in germany aren't bad like the ones in the us so I was wonder that if this is actually true(other than the part that it would still be expensive to maintain) which models would be best. I was thinking an a class or c class that are made in germany which of course has the W starting the vin number to say so

Just adding a couple of things I think are good for you to know:

1. Yes, it is true that German cars, made in Germany, are better built than the ones built in other places.

2. That doesn't mean maintenance or parts are any cheaper or that they will not break.

3. Every time someone asks me if they should buy a BMW/Mercedes, I ask them a very simple question: If you had to spend $2000 right now on a car repair, could you do so comfortably? Just servicing the car will run you $500+ each visit, much more for the fancier cars. Fun did you know: Replacing brake pads and rotors on an S550 AMG from a few years ago will run you $10k. Just brakes. That's just standard, OEM pads and rotors.

You're in school. Don't deal with the headaches of a German car right now. Focus on reliability and low cost. Honda/Toyota make great cars, or if you HAVE to be fancy check out Lexus. But as someone who sees these cars literally every day, I would not recommend you purchase one at this point in your life. Later, when school is done and you can lease one new for a few years, do that. You can get it out of your system and not be stuck with it when it starts to go wrong.

That's the best advice I can give. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

The problem is you still have all that over engineered German tech surrounding the powertrain that can break and cost a fortune to repair out of warranty.  There is no escaping that!  I highly recommend you only lease a newer one while under warranty and get out of your system.  If anything goes wrong, you throw the dealership the keys and the repairs are all on their dime.

Okay considering that would an extended warranty be useful then?

Do you have a backup Toyota/Honda daily driver to use, whenever the German garage queen is in the ‘garage’?

I do currently own a toyota but like I'm pretty sure if I do get a mercedes then I have to either hand it down to my brother when he starts driving or give it to my father since his car is crap. It's sorta the family rule although I have asked my father to let me keep both. So I honestly probably won't have a spare but I also don't drive that much compared to most people, granted due to the pandemic I don't drive much to my school campus but in the time I have owned it and driven it I've only put 2k miles on it.
