I’m getting a strange squeak or a bird whistle noise when I’m driving and making a turn. Stationary and turning wheels I get no noise. And it’s particularly when making a left turn. Does it right as well.
I did wheel bearings, rotors, and pads about 3 weeks ago and everything has been fine since. This literally started yesterday after I parked and then drove back.
I took off the wheels and checked the dust shield to see if it might be touching rotors but it’s not. Everything looks fine. I put back on wheels and decided to spray out the area with the hose. It stopped after that so I thought it might have just been brake dust. But it started back again today very lightly.
I can only recreate the noise when making a left turn mostly and if I’m driving straight and I jerk the wheel to the left. Nothing loud but it’s an annoying metallic like whistle.
Since it doesn’t happen stationary I know it has to do with rotational movement.
I used timken bearings inner and outer with new races, greased everything up good, preloaded bearings, backed off then tighten to specs. Rotors and pads were powerstop.
I wiggled the wheel top and bottom and side to side to check for any play and theres nothing to indiciate a problem with the new bearings. And spraying water into rotor, caliper, and brake area stopped the noise right after.
Maybe the braking hardware and pads don’t have enough grease?
It sounds like a lubrication issue. I would try adding grease to the aforementioned areas and seeing if it solves the problem.
