Honda CRV 2004, 140k miles, automatic, no codes with both a 3-4K scanner from a professional mechanic and a mid grade $200 scanner.
I checked the spark plugs and they’re fine, switched spark plug 1 and 2 to see if cylinder 1 still comes up, indeed it does. The engine sounds excellent and it’s not “kicking or bucking”. I’m driving up to North Dakota which is 1300 mile drive from SoCal.
Should I invest in a professional to try and figure out why it’s showing a misfire and what could it be that’s causing it?
Yeah yeah might as well I mean I'm not saying you could do the swap fuel injectors and then if it moves you know you got a bad fuel injector but that's kind of a pain in the butt and if it's not that then you would either have a problem in the computer system operating that cylinder or a problem in that cylinder like worn piston rings or valve
Here’s what they found.
Cylinder 2 and 3 with a history of a few misfires. They said small amounts of misfires are not a problem and that check engine light would come on if it’s problematic. Said cylinders and pistons are clean they found small traces of coolant in cylinder 2. Said that coolant system was pressure tested and loses pressure slowly without any external leaks, so not sure about the coolant pressure losing pressure? Otherwise they want me to drive it 100 miles and take it back to scan it to see if there’s any more misfires. They said it’s normal for modern vehicles to have a few misfires?
Did you also switch ignition coils when you switched spark plugs from cylinder 1 to cylinder 2?
.... just to rule out a faulty ignition coil
I didn’t but they did and asked me to drive it a bit and take it back. How many misfires are ok? They said just a few on cylinder 2 and 3 in history.
You are at the beginning symptoms of a blown head gasket. When you see white smoke out the tail pipe and have an extremely rough idle, you'll know the party is over.
