[Solved] Need a used car in 2024

Scotty, I am going to be in the market for a used car in 2024. Now I buy used cars at 2 years old and 40K miles as my general parameters. I had planned on a Honda Accord, but they went turbo and CVT which I don't like. I had a turbo engine before and feel it's just another failure waiting to happen. Toyota Camry is also a CVT. Those two were a couple of your go to cars before, but are they still? My 2010 Sonata has 285K ATM.

There is nothing wrong with a good turbo engine or CVT transmission; Honda is the best for turbo engines and even Scotty has done a video on their newer turbo engines. As far as CVT Toyota has been making them for years now and they are very reliable. But if you still don't want either of these two yes a Camry or Rav4 non-hybrid doesn't have turbo and doesn't have CVT.

Also another point to keep in mind will be the car market; if used car prices are still high in 2024 then it might as well make sense paying a couple thousand dollars more and buying brand new.

Only the Toyota Camry hybrids are CVT. The regular camera still use full automatic transmissions

Scotty typically answers questions once and doesn't revisit them. He has recommended the 2023 2.5L Camry with conventional automatic transmission.

I prefer to stay away from turbos. I had a turbo Subaru and when the seal went it started sucking oil and it's just another spinning hot bearing waiting to fail. I wish Honda had stayed with the 2.0 engine. Scotty has said CVT trans are expensive to repair when they fail. So I guess I will look at a 2022 Camry as a starting point.

Thanks for the input guyz

Chuck, I used to own a 1970 AMX.

So then would you recommend a 2022 Camry or what would be your choice in this class? I had originally planned on another Sonata since my 2010 did pretty good for me, 285K and counting. But you had said 2011 on had a different motor that wasn't so reliable.

2022 Toyota Camry is fine. Get the non-hybrid with the regular 8-speed automatic transmission.

Your 2010 Sonata was made before Hyundai quality and reliability took a serious downturn. It's best to avoid their newer vehicles.
