Need Car for Utah Snow/Ice

Topic starter

Hi Scotty! I recently moved to snowy and icy Northern Utah from sunny California. What vehicle do you recommend for this kind of weather? Is an AWD or 4-wheel drive better? Truck, sedan, or SUV? I am interested in buying something used up to $35K. Thanks so much!

Don't forget the tires.  You're not going very far in snow with highway treads.

And snow chains too.

AWD for on-road

4WD for off-road.

Truck, sedan, or SUV?

That's depends entirely on your personal needs. I would say get the smallest vehicle you can get away with to save on fuel and maintenance. Many sedans and compacts are offered with AWD now.

First see what's available around you. Chances are you won't see what you want, and you'll have to choose from what you can find.

But with your budget, I think you might as well buy new.

Amazing, only $2,600 difference between a 4 year old Camry and a new one. Are you kidding me?!!

yup. sellers are laughing right now.

Yeah, but don’t they realize buyers can just go and buy a brand new vehicle?

can they , though?

As long as that current generation of vehicles is being made, then sure why not? Maybe you have to wait after you order, but still.

not everyone can wait. especially if it's a year.

If they can’t wait, tough luck.

anyway I think that's your answer. Availability is what drove the prices up.

Take a look in the search bar above.  The topic of good cars for foul weather has come up many times.  You’ll get a broader range of opinion than just this one thread.

Cheers!

Go through Scotty's reviews, perhaps you'll find something

Dealerships' markups probably not included.
