New Brake Chatter

I just put in new front rotors, calipers and brake pads in my 2000 Ford Ranger 2-wheel drive and now they chatter when I am stopping, especially when I am turning as I brake. What could cause this? Did I do something wrong? Could it be that I didn't tighten the wheel bearing nut enough? I had no problems before the replacement except everything was so rusted the wheels barely turned. I have a bad upper ball joint that I'll be replacing and then getting a front end alignment. Could that be causing the chattering?

What procedure did you use to tighten and lock the wheel bearing nuts?

Did you install new clips that should have come with the new pads? Did you lubricate the contact points on the new pads? Failure to do either can cause brake noise.

Building on Doc's question, check out this forum:

Specifically:

In case it is a 2WD truck, your rotors go on inner and outer wheel bearings. If these are not pre-loaded and tightened to specific torque, they will be loose and can cause the shake.

One or both of the new rotors could be warped.
