I was looking for a Toyota 4runner but none of the dealerships would let me order one new. My question is would a Ford F150 Be a good compromise?
These are two totally different cars; 4Runner is suv while the F-150 is a truck.
What do you mean by dealerships wouldn't let you order a new one? Toyota is based on allocation system so you won't be doing a factory/special order. You have to go to different dealerships and see which ones have been allocated the specific 4Runner you are looking for (remember since it's not a special order the allocated vehicle might have a package or something you didn't initially want). Then you can see if the dealership will take a deposit to reserve that unit for you. And how this works is you will negotiate the price, get a detailed sales order signed by you and the sales manager, put the deposit and then wait for the car to arrive.
Is there a specific van you recommend?
It depends.
new? old? budget?
high top, or does it need to fit in underground parking?
How much cargo volume or weight capacity is needed?
If you have no constraints ... the Mercedes Sprinter is probably the best thing on the market right now if you can afford one.
An F150 is a pickup. Do you want an SUV or a pickup?
I just need something comfortable that can carry lots of packages
Packages = boxes
If it were a Ford product, I wouldn't be interested in any of their products except for the 3/4 ton pickup.
If you're looking for something to carry boxes, get a 2nd gen ('04-'10) Toyota Sienna honestly. You can remove the 2nd row seats and fold down the 3rd row, they can carry 4x8 sheets of plywood flat and the 2nd row floor space doesn't have those annoying floor rails like the 3rd gens (2011-2020) do. The 4th gen (2021-22) you can't remove the 2nd row seats.
