Should I buy a Ford F-150 with Tremor package

I currently have two vehicles, a 2014 Honda Accord EX-L with the 3.5L V6, with 95k miles as a daily driver. I also have a supercharged 2014 Mustang GT with about 43k miles which I maybe put about 3-4k miles on per year. 

I'm considering selling/trading the mustang in for a 4x4 truck and I really really love the new F-150 Tremor that Ford has come out with but it only comes in a very specific configuration - Crew Cab, Short Bed (5.5 ft), with the 3.5L Ecoboost V6. 

It is very rare I need a truck to haul things, nor do I have anything to tow, but I like the options that a truck would open up practicality wise. That being said, I know Scotty and many others have some poor outlooks on the 3.5L Ecoboost. I have not seen as many issues with the second generation engines though. 

In my use case, I would probably put anywhere from 5-10k miles on the truck per year, which would mostly be highway driving.

The quality of Ford vehicles has gone straight down hill in recent years and I would not consider buying any Ford product at all.

I would not make that trade. As @Doc said, Ford doesn't make anything worth paying for at this point and time.

I looked at the features on the Tremor, and let me tell you it is a JOKE. It's nothing a but a bunch of gimmicks that people get to look tough while mall crawling.

If you’ve watched Scotty any length of time, you know he’s not a fan of EcoBoost.  And for good reason- small displacement turbocharged motors don’t stand up well in heavy trucks, especially under load.  They also sometimes struggle to match EPA fuel economy numbers in real life. 

That said, if you aren’t towing or hauling, and you drive conservatively, it could give you a reasonable service life.  Be aware that turbocharged motors are very sensitive to maintenance- use good oil & filter and change them religiously at every 5000 miles or less... check the oil weekly and watch for dilution or oil burning ... keep a clean air filter in it ... use high quality spark plugs, etc.  Also, never floor it until the engine has had a few minutes to get up to operating temperatures. 

By the way, the Ford guys might chime in on this, but in the Ecoboost series, the 3.5 is one of the better ones, especially if well maintained and not beaten to death.  It’s not a million mile Cummins or something, but 200k miles is probably reasonable.

The 3.5 has come a long way since the birth of the 2nd gen (2018-current). Realize you’re preventative maintenance is cut nearly in half interval wise. Oil needs 3k mi changes, 10 speed transmission never go past 30k mi for fluid change, spark plugs HAVE TO be changed at 60k mi no exceptions. I am not a huge fan of the Ecoboost line BUT if I was going to purchase one I’m buying a 3.5 hands down. And let’s be honest the V8 is going away so these turbo V6s are here to stay. A very well maintained 3.5 should have very little issue getting to 250-300k mi. The Tremor is a cool trim level for sure but for me there’s to much extra nonsense in it.  Go to motorreviewer.com it’ll tell you everything you need to know about the 3.5 eco.

Since you say you won't use it very often why not just rent one when you need it?

With the way things will be going in the future for the Mustang (upcoming S650 hybrid versions etc.), there is no way I would sell it for any reason.

Since you are not going to haul, or have a use for a full size truck I would skip it for the reasons mentioned above.

A Tacoma may be the way to go for practicality.
