It seems to me the Nissan E-Power and the 3rd Generation Honda Hybrid are very similar. It uses gas to generate electricity. In a way, it is also similar to how hydrogen fuel cells work. For the most part*, electric motors provide propulsion rather than the internal combustion engine.
In contrast, the Toyota Hybrid System uses either or a combination of the ICE and electric motor across any speed range, which also means a larger battery (but not as large as a pure EV).
Assuming the reliability of the systems, which hybrid or EV system is better? A hybrid system, a EV with a gas generator? How do these compare with Battery EV’s?
In 10 years, what respective percentage of the new market will be ICE, hybrids, EV with gas generation, Battery EV, and hydrogen fuel cell?
Any other auto propulsion tech on the horizon?
*The 3rd Generation Honda Hybrid ICE propels the car at higher speeds, through the use of a clutch.
I generally see the Toyota hybrids to be more technologically logical and they are by far more reliable.
Toyota also claims to have 70% of its profits come form EVs by 2030, and cities will be banning new ICEs by as early as 2027. Fuel cell isn't very popular I only know of two in the states the Mirai and the Nexo and there are only about 8000 of them on US roads. I think more manufacturers will be switching to battery EVs because gas EVs (though I'm not completly sure) might still not be considered zero emission. Manufacturers are shotting for 0 emission vehicles because major markets like California are issuing orders to ban them.
Had the recent Honda and Nissan tech come out in the early 2000’s, I think they would have given Toyota a run for its money. But Toyota has such a foothold and robust hybrid technology, other choices will have to be significantly compelling to make a difference.
I would not mess with anything that Nissan makes they create a lot of junk these days so I would basically stick with the Toyota.if you want to mess with Honda new technology hey maybe it'll work maybe it won't only time will tell on that one
