Sold I sold my high mileage Nissan 350Z and am looking for a another vehicle. Looking for a little practicallity but also fun to drive.
Nissan Sentra SR Turbo vs 2018 Mazda 3 Grand Touring hatch. Both Manual. Both have around 30K miles and about same price. I tested the Mazda. Seemed a little crammed getting in and out of the car or maybe I need to adjust steering and seat. Seemed to have enough power and fun. Haven't test drove Nissan as I hate dealing with dealers but am tempted just to see as I haven't been able to score a deal on the Mazdas.. lol
Thoughts???
Scotty answered this in todays video at the very beginning:
Scotty: "I would go Mazda all the way on that one. It's 2018 they have relations with Toyota... they are much better made than they used to be. And the Nissan Sentra is a Nissan Sentra problems as they age. No question I would go with the Mazda on that one they are so much better made. You say they are the same price but in the real world the Sentra would be worth a lot less"

I would definitely go with the Mazda. I personally don't like newer Nissans because they feel very cheap inside, especially the smaller ones like that Sentra, and they are nowhere near as well built as those 350Zs were. And Mazda's manual transmissions are much more crisp than the one in the Sentra.
Definitely get the Mazda, it will run circles around the Nissan and it will last way longer.
Mazda for sure until Nissan gets its Japanese mojo back.
I have a Nissan Sentra and Mazda 3 in the garage right now. You are looking at manual transmission so at least you avoid the junky Nissan CVT that I’ve come to realize I have. The Mazda 3 is much more fun to drive than the Nissan Sentra. Best of luck
Add the Turbo and you will make the Nissan engine explode. I would go Mazda on that one, but if you test the Sentra and you like it better, it could be alright for a while as it is a manual. Neither should have problems until around 100k miles and you should always have a mechanic do a pre-purchase inspection on which ever car you choose.
Am sure I'm going to go with the Mazda 3 GT Hatch. Mazda gives more bang for the buck too. I'll post my review if I decide to test the Nissan for shits and giggles.
So I test drove the Nissan Sentra SR Turbo. I think it's a good second choice if I can't score a deal on a Mazda and I really need a car.
It drives fine and handles fine and obviously has more power than a regular Sentra, though I can almost here the car telling me "that's all I got!". The body and interior do not feel as solid as the Mazda. Felt like a fancy rental. The doors diddn't seem to swing freely. Don't know if it's a desgin issue or limited to the car I tested. Getting in and out of the car felt better and roomier than the Mazda but I didn't get the sense that the seats hugged me once I settled in. Too much movement in the seat while driving.
Overall, I think it's a fine car as far as looks and I guess enough power. But I'll hold out for a Mazda 3 Hatchback Grand Touring Manual if I can. More solid and more bang for the buck when you compare the two.
Those are my 2 cents for what they're worth. And for the record, I did drive a 1990 Sentra 2 door manual back in the day. The squared boxy looking one. Got 200k miles out of it.
I’m pro Nissan on this one the manual trans and the turbo engine in the newer Sentra have had close to 0 problems they’ve got decent power and so far very reliable. And the 6 speeds are strong. Not so sure on Mazda’s but to me it’s a Japanese Ford and the dealers aren’t quite as convenient depending on where you live.
Do you work for Nissan?
For 15 years now ase and Nissan master certified
And this whole sites misperception on problems with them blows my mind so I like to state my opinion and try and add some truth to the topics
These days Mazda and Ford have nothing to do with each other. Infact these days Mazda has more to do with Toyota than it does with Ford.
Haha man down vote over my opinion it’s ok everybody is entitled to there own. I wouldn’t knock anyone for buying anything that they like because everyone has different taste with everything. But I’m sorry if I offended you billybob hahaha
Yeah I respect that and yes Nissan manual transmissions are better but man Mazda has nothing to do with Ford for like the last 7 8 years and was actually using Nissan transmissions during that time, and has a lot to do with Volvo, which designed the European Focus and american Mazda 3 platform. But the engine, is it GDI? If it is a GDI Turbo then man would I run away from it.
Plus Nissan is most likely going to be brankrupt by next year or something around that so why buy a product from a company goign bankrupt the year before? Nissan is half french and it shows.
My experience with Nissan is that my father owned a 1994 Nissan Maxima until around 10 years ago and it was a pile of junk with tons of engine issues and the newer ones are worse than that, then they must be abolsute garbage to an unexplainable level.
That’s your opinion but aside from an almost 30 year old maxima that it sounds like lasted almost 20 years? I’m not sure how I’m depth your experience is. At the end of the day Nissan isn’t going anywhere they still have new models coming out and there cars are not garbage and there is millions of them on the road with people who wouldn’t agree with your extremely negative opinion but that’s just my opinion
I like Nissan cars just they don't last over 100k miles I don't see 15 20 year old Nissans on the road but you do see them under 100k miles.
Kerem hopes to get driver's license some day. 😉
True @mountainmanjoe maybe it’s just me @kerem I see Nissans on a daily basis with over 100k I personally drive a 09 Murano with 234k and counting and it still runs like a champ. All just depends on how well the people take care of there cars
Yep. Sometimes you get flawless diamond, and sometimes you get a dud. But a bit of know-how can turn a situation in your favour.
hope you have good luck with that car would love to see it at 300k really Nissan is a weird company everyone has different opinions on it I see some very very nice ones that can run forever and some that just don't because of the cvt. All companies have good and bad cars.
@r4nier @mountainmanjoe
Here is Scotty's opinion he answered it in todays video if you are interested (at the very beginning)

Like I said everyone is entitled to there own opinion @kerem I don’t hate
