I have a 2012 4Runner Trail edition. I bought it last year with only 64 thousand miles on it. It seems great except for one strange problem. When going around long curves in the Ozarks, at around 35 -40 mph, just as I am taking my foot off the brake mid curve and just before I begin accelerating out of the curve the vehicle will feel like it is hitting sand. The vehicle will pull to the outside of the curve (it does it in both left and right curves) and there is a friction - brrrrt sound, not quite a grinding sound. This can last from less than a 1/2 a second to a full second. It can feel very mild to sometimes pretty scary. The engine is not downshifting. It will not do it at all driving around town making normal turns,. Only on long - greater the 100 degree curves. Driving from Jasper to Harrison it will do it once or twice over a few dozen curves but not every curve and not the same curves each trip. I have had several mechanics look at it and no one has been able to diagnose the problem. We tried disconnection the anti lock brake module and it still did it. Transfer case and diff fluids were changed. Brakes were done by the seller so are new. One suggestion I have tried is to drive with 2 feet, I begin accelerating mid curve just before I remove my foot from the brake. If I drive with this technique it will not do the thing. But that is not a great way to have to drive
For my experience that's often an axle problem. A problem in the CV axle joints, especially if it makes noise when it does that and it will make it start to pull one way if the joints aren't moving smoothly
