Hi!
I have 2018 Ford Edge 2.0 Ecoboost. Do I need to install oil catch can in these or are they dual injection systems(direct and ported)?
Thanks!
Winston
If it’s DGI just have it cleaned periodically.....
The question is I don't know if it is. Also how do you go about cleaning the valves? May be I have to get it done since it's almost 50k miles and I only did fluids and spark plugs.
@winstonkyu Your engine is direct-injection only.
thanks for the information. I am going to figure out how to install a catch can.
@winstonkyu Also realize whatever powertrain warranty you have left a catch can may void it, so you would have to undo the installation before going in for warranty work.
I noticed. I was looking at JLT oil catch can since they have a video on how to install it. I noticed that on their website it's not CARB (California Air Resource Board) Exempt.
They won't even ship it to California. I ended up buying a boreoscope so I can start with checking up on my valve before I use the cleaner.
Here is the JLT OCC: https://www.jlttruecoldair.com/jlt-3-0-oil-separator-for-13-18-fusion-2-0l-eb-13-18-lincoln-mkz-2-0-eb-15-18-ford-edge-2-0l-eb-passenger-side/
I don't think anyone's answered the question of does he or not
Not sure if I understood. For now I decided to use the CRC cleaner. It will be a lot of work to take the catch can on and off on the car for smog inspection. I also noticed that my car comes with the oil separator built in from my research: https://parts.ford.com/shop/en/us/engine/other-engine-parts/separator-assy-oil-7845475-1.
The motor is GDI. Put a catch can on that thing ASAP. Oil changes and spark plugs changed on time every time. That’s how you keep those ecoooops maintained. Crazy, you buy a brand new vehicle and right off the lot you need to spend money on a catch can to keep the motor maintained. Why don’t they just come with catch cans? Ford and the other American companies have just tanked in quality and common sense.
