Hello Scotty,

I have several old vehicle that have sat on my grandparents property for years (like 20 plus). I'd like to see if any are worth keeping but am not sure how to do determine that. Some have rust how much rust is too much?  Any insight you can provide is appreciated.

1966 Toyota Corona

1965 Ford Ranchero 2 door

1959 AMC Rambler American Two Door wagon

1957 Cadillac Fleetwood (not sure if its really a Cadillac Fleetwood)

Also what does the transmission froze up mean? That's what I remember by grandpa saying about the Cadillac.

Thank you

Leina

Could you post some photos please?

If a transmission is seized up, then it needs to be rebuilt . The car won't move.

The rust is definitely too much if structural parts of a car are rotted. Brake and fuel lines, and hydraulic brake parts are likely to be bad as well.  If those cars have been sitting outside for 20 years or more on dirt or grass they could be pretty bad, depending on the climate. There's a good chance that engines are seized as well, and rodents may have done a number on wiring and interiors. The cars would need to be examined to see if they're salvageable.

I have this sinking feeling that they are all beyond reasonable repair. Photos would be necessary to really determine, but sitting for that length of time.....

Also, none are real money makers so restoration would really have to be a labor of love with no intent of getting any of your money back.

not to mention that if you got in a wreck you would lose it all
