Old Toyota or New Honda

Hello so currently debating a decision.

My mother currently owns a 2006 Scion xB manual with 175,000 miles. Runs great with no issues. I was planning to give her my current vehicle which I almost have paid off which is a 2017 Honda Civic automatic with 45,000 miles.

However, the civic has the 1.5L turbo engine. The one getting a reputation for oil dilution. And I’ve already had a gasket replaced under warranty as it was leaking oil.

Should I give her the car or should I just trade it in and avoid the possible headache of the engine down the road?

What happens to the xB if you give her your Civic?

If she’s happy with her present car and since you say it’s running fine, I’d say just let things be as is. Do you want to get rid of the Civic?

The way I see it, you won’t get much for a 15yr old high mileage Scion. And you’ll lose out in depreciation on a 4yr old Civic.

If nothing is wrong with the Civic, just keep driving it.

Your mother is probably better off keeping the XB.

If the XB is fine and it is still running good and she is happy with it as is, then just let things go on a bit more. See how reliable the Civic is in the next 2 3 years.

Chances are the Scion would have less issues than the new design Civic

Thank you for the advice.

Essentially planning to a switch to a truck with AWD as lifestyle changes and living in an area where it’s preferred (Pacific Northwest). And deciding what to do with the Honda as I make the switch.

If your mum needs an automatic, sure, give her the Civic. But if she’s happy with the xB manual, get rid of your Civic.
