Could I have stupidly fried the PCM?

I have a 2004 Chevy Silverado 6.0L, I was changing the cab lights on my truck. I forgot to turn the key ignition switch to off so it was it was left on with the headlights on also. I plugged in the positive and negative wires in to see if the lights would work and instantly smelled a burning smell. When I tried to start up the truck it makes a clicking noise. Could I have stupidly fried the PCM?

Codes:

U1016 - Lost communication with powertrain control module

U1000 - Class 2 Data Link Malfunction

U1096 - Lost communication with instrument cluster

did you kill the battery?

No, headlights and everything work. I can also hear the fuel pump turn on when I try to start it. When I do try to start it, it makes a clicking noise. I'm guessing I fried the PCM because of the codes I mentioned above. There are also ABS codes about the wheel speed sensor that I never had before. Thinking about buying one from the dealership because I could possibly get it quicker and with a warranty. Or do you think I should buy on online, I think it would be cheaper this way though?

And just to explain it better the cab lights that I had ordered only came with a positive and negative wire, not a plug and play. I stupidly left the truck ignition on the on position, when plugging in these wires. When I plugged in the wires I smelled a burning smell. And that's when I tried to start the truck and it didn't.

No, the PCM isn't required for cranking.

Check all your fuses and relays first.  You might get lucky.
