Hi Scotty,
First of all, I greatly appreciate what you do on your YouTube channel. God bless you.
My father owns a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited V8 4.7L. I want to replace the steering fluid in his car. Many sources states that Jeep is particular about the steering fluid used and I can’t just use an off the shelf steering fluid from an auto parts store even if it says it’s compatible. At the same time, because of how old the car is, the fluid originally made for it isn’t available. Which steering fluid should I use?
Thanks again for everything you do,
Michael
What should I do?
Get an owner's manual or service manual. It took about 30 seconds to find this:
https://cdn.xjjeeps.com/pdf/en-us/2000-service-manual.pdf
It states in the power steering section to use "Mopar power steering fluid or equivalent. Do not use automatic transmission fluid".
That would be this stuff (there is a different fluid for newer Jeeps):

what's the original fluid?
I can’t find the user manual for the car but I contacted mopar and they recommended ATF+4 or POWER STEERING +4.
All ATF+4 I was able to find is transmission oil. And in one of the videos on YouTube of someone replacing the steering fluid for a Jeep, he mentioned that transmission oil shouldn’t be used in place of power steering fluid as it’s mentioned in owners manual. He also mentioned that M5931 should be used for 98-2004 Jeep models.
I don’t have the owner’s manual to verify that. What should I do?
