Hey Scotty,
My friend has a 2012 Toyota Highlander with around 250 000 km (155 000 miles ish) and the power tailgate had issues recently when he presses the button it goes down but wouldn't close or lock into place. Could it be a failure of the latch actuator or am I missing something? What are some other things to check?

First, load test the battery (and alternator), then check for bent hinges -
