Preventing pressure

Good afternoon everyone. 2001 Honda Civic LX 5-Speed cheers to 170K miles. While I was traveling to see my grandmother the upper radiator hose bursted so hinting there was too much pressure in the cooling system. The same thing happened last year of February I was on the way back from Goldsboro and the upper hose bursted unexpectedly. I replaced the upper hose and put coolant back in but is there a way to prevent pressure in the cooling system?

Make sure you have the correct pound rated radiator cap.

I have the a Duralast Radiator Cap 7816 the one with the safety lever but didn't mention the pound rate tho but it was a fit for my Civic

Fits perfectly

It doesn't matter that it fits, it matters that it meets the pound specifications for the vehicle.

I don't have the pack it came in but is there a way I can see on the cap?

Oh I see its 16 pounds

According to Google for the 7th generation Honda Civics the psi is 16

Check for a blown head gasket.

Did that test and wasn't the head gasket I assume it probably has to do with the water pump cause my water pump is indeed needing replacement which will be done next day at Firestone

The cooling system should be under pressure. Make sure you use quality parts for the hoses,....

Oh yeah... When I bought a new upper hose I got the highest quality they had
