Purchase Used 4Runner

Dear Scotty, I'm newer to your channel, and I rather enjoy it! I'm currently looking at buying one of two used 4Runners, and I wanted your opinion. One is a 1995 with 233,000 miles. the owner says it has a solid frame with some rust. She wants $2200. The other is a 1998 SR5 with 180,000 miles, and some holes in the frame that can apparently be repaired, comes with two extra sets of tires on wheels. He wants $2250. What else should/could I be looking out for when I go to view these vehicles, tomorrow? Hopefully you're able to even get back to me by then! Thank you!

Kevin

@winstead
I agree with @mountainmanjoe. While older cars are good weekend toys, they are not your typical daily drivers. When a crash happens, those old junkers may survive, but will leave you dead on the road.

Why would you want those old rust buckets. What a terrible idea. Save up some more money and get something less than 10 years old and no rust!

@mountainmanjoe
Talk about a bad idea, keep playing with those "newer" cars, and see where it inevitably gets you.

it gets me a car that I haven't had to touch in 4 years. And it won't break in two in an accident.

@mountainmanjoe
My daily is a 1986 Chevy Astro... I know what I'm doing. Save your unjust criticisms for those susceptible to the judgments of others... and with those newer cars... good luck!

I'm confused. You came here to ask for our judgment.

@mountainmanjoe
I can see you're confused. Allow me to clear that up for you... I asked Scotty about those Toyotas. I have no idea who you even are. There was no "our" about it, in the first place. He has some great things to say about 4Runners, so I wanted HIS input on the particular vehicles I mentioned. I hope that concludes our interaction. I'll wait for Scotty to respond now. Have a good holiday, sir.

Understood. Allow me to clear something up for you.
Scotty does his best, but he is unable to answer every one of the thousands of questions this forum gets. He needs help. This is an open forum where everybody is free to help one another using the knowledge and experience they have. We have all kinds here, professional mechanics, car salesmen, truck drivers, you name it. So please if you wish to use this forum, then please don't go jumping down the throats of people trying to help you.

I sincerely hope you do get an answer from Scotty himself. If he does, I suspect the answer will be similar to mine.

@mountainmanjoe
Lol dude, good thing I'm not the boss... you'd be fired.

The people who volunteer their free time to help here do so only because they enjoy doing it. Please bear that in mind.

Check out the frame rust yourself. Scotty has mentioned a couple of times. They are old vehicles and at this age, so many things could go wring. You should be prepared for that too. With that said, if you really like those, ask a trustworthy mechanic to check the cars for you. Also, they both have timing belt which you shuld see when they were changed. That's a big repair cost too.

@yaser
Thank you.
