quality replacement engine

I have a relatively low mileage 2012 Jeep Wrangler JK 3.6L V6. You have told us time and time again that they become money pits. But I really like it and when the time comes, I'm willing to pay to have a new engine installed in it. What's a better quality replacement engine that fits that you would recommend?

Your Wrangler can't just take any 'ol engine that will fit in the engine bay like the old days.

You can't put a Toyota engine in, for example. It probably won't bolt up to the transmission, and cars are so electronically sophisticated these days, it wouldn't know when to shift gears, if it could fit. They used kick down cables to change gears on old hydraulic transmissions. It didn't matter what the engine was, as long as it physically fit in the bay and bolted up to the tranny. Physically damaging the transmission from too much power was a real possibility. Now, it's all electronic software and it would be a rat's nest of programming.

Really, your only option is to get another 3.6L V6 or whatever other engine that comes with that model year Wrangler if it bolts to the transmission and have the PCM flashed for the new engine. If the PCM even connects to the new engine.

Rebuilt engines are available from outfits like ATK, Jasper, O'Reilly's, Powertrain Products and others and have varying degrees of warranties.  Just type your year and engine size in a search engine and browse.  Or, you can just have yours rebuilt locally.
