Hi Scotty,
I still really enjoy your videos and I just have some feedback that I wanted to give you on the previous car I drove for a while, and a couple basic maintenance questions for the current car I drive now, since May.
You may have remembered me asking you a few questions on your previous website that you replied to me on my previous car my 2003 mazda tribute V6.  I ended up trading it in back in May and buying a 2019 Toyota corolla LE for my next car.  On my tribute I ended up having 208,000 miles on it when I traded it in.  I basically decided not to put that much more money into it, since there were other little things going on (such as automatic transmission slipping at times the last 15 or 20,000 miles, oil leaking onto the exhaust manifold, and other very minor things I could live with) and I had the money saved up for something else.  I also didn't want to put a lot more money into the car and I do drive pretty far to work and usually put around 20 to 25,000 miles a year on.  Overall my tribute was "relatively reliable" but still had a fair share of problems.  Just thought I would give you some feedback on that, incase someone else asks you about that particular vehicle.

I actually didn't buy my corolla at a dealer and I saved a bunch of money and bought it at a rental car place.  They usually take care of the cars pretty good at this place, and it only had 12,000 miles on it when I bought it.  It wasn't in any accidents or anything and the carfax reports looked good.   So far I have been very happy with my corolla.  I definitely get much better gas mileage on it, compared to my tribute.  I actually do seem to be getting slightly better gas mileage than what the car is rated at.  As I remember in a couple of your videos you mentioned your son getting really good MPG on his corolla too.  Just thought I would mention that to you as some feedback.

I do have a couple basic questions as far as regular maintenance of my corolla:
How often should I change the oil on it??  I don't actually change oil myself or do much work on my car as I usually pay a place to do it.  The reason I ask is cause I know in many of your previous videos you do say with the 0W-20 full synthetic oil (which my corolla takes), or any full synthetic oil, you only have to change it every 8 to 10,000 miles, mainly for cars that don't have a turbo or super charger on it, or gasoline-direct injection, which this corolla doesn't have.  Although I've heard you say with cars that have the GDI or turbo charger, you should change it every 5,000 or so (even with full-synthetic).  The place I bought my corolla at clocked the mileage at 10,000 miles from the previous oil change and they basically told me that with the full synthetic oil, you only have to change it every 10,000 miles or so (or once a year)??  I know some other places may clock it differently (like maybe every 8,000 or so).  My Dad also drives a corolla (2018) that he bought last year used, with the same oil and he gets it done at a dealer every 10,000 miles as they clock it that way at the dealer as well.  He doesn't have any problems with his.  But Let me know as I want to make sure I change it regularly.  I currently have 21,000 miles on mine.

Also, for the CVT transmission, how often should I change the transmission fluid?  I would obviously pay a place or someone to do it, but I know you have said in the past that for toyota CVT and automatic transmissions (since they're usually very reliable), changing it every 60,000 miles is good??  Let me know about this, as I would really like the CVT in my corolla to last as long as it can.

So if you could, please let me know about those 2 questions regarding maintenance of my corolla.

Keep posting new videos, I enjoy watching them and learning new things about different cars!

Thanks,
Zach

I wouln't care what the manufacturer says or if the oil is synthetic or not. Change it every 5k or so miles. If you do more than %80 highway driving, change it every 6-7k miles. Do not leave it for 10-15 that is a good way to wear out a 2 year old car.

Ok, sounds like its definitely better to be on the safe side and change it every 5 to 6,000.  Although most of my miles (around 70 to 75%) are highway miles, but thanks for letting me know.  What about the transmission fluid?  I know it will probably be some time till I have to get that done, but let me know.

the owner's manual should answer those questions. If you don't have it, manufacturers provide digital copies for free on their websites.

It doesn't say anywhere in my car manual when to change the oil or the transmission fluid.

I would not go over 7,500 miles.  If you want to keep it a long time, change it at least that interval.

I have an 2003 corolla, have changed it at 3K and the engine is fine as is the car.  The newer ones have that new filter configuration which makes them a bit harder to change, but it is not brain surgery.  As Scottie says, oil is cheap, engines are expensive.

Hey thanks everyone for the honest responses.  Last weekend I was able to find the maintenance guide in my car that comes with the manual.  Its not in the actual car manual, but its a small booklet that says Warranty and maintenance guide.  It does say when the CVT fluid should be changed which it says every 60,000 miles (which is pretty much what I've heard from Scotty before).
