Hi,
This is my car details:
2012 Kia Sorento CRDI 4 Cyl Diesel 2.2L
Odometer: 697,000 KM (approximately 430,000 miles)
Engine is original since brand new
Gearbox 520,000 KM (or 323,000 miles)
I’m having 2 separated but related issues with my cooling system on my car.
Issue 1:
When the air con is switched off, the front radiator fan is ‘always off’. So the engine starts to gradually overheat, especially during idling. However, when I switch on the Air con, then the radiator fan kicks in and starts to work perfectly fine. I find this to be very abnormal, and very likely is a electrical issue.
Recently I replaced all my fuel injectors with used parts, because they were too noisy and worn out, which were contributing to overheating at the time.
However, at the moment I am convinced that my fuel injectors are working OK. And that the cooling issue is to do with the fan itself, not working when it should.
Issue 2:
The temperature gauge on my dash is not showing the correct reading. When engine starts overheating, the temperature gauge doesn’t correctly reflect. Instead, it shows middle / which is normal. Or it shows cold when car has been switched off for long, and then slowly goes up to middle.
When the engine and coolant start overheating, or sometimes due to total loss of coolant, the temperature gauge does not indicate overheating. It still stays in the middle indicating normal operation. (which is false). Which itself is dangerous as it means I’ll end up cooking the engine if I don’t know of coolant leak and overheating.
That’s why I purchased a digital heads up display, that connects to my OBD2 port.
I am able to see the correct coolant and engine temperature from a digital OBD2 Heads Up Display HUD, which I purchased from ebay.
However, the front radiator fan not turning on, unless Air Con is switched on. And the temperature gauge on my dash not correctly reflecting on true coolant and engine temperature overheating.
I am not sure if there is any coolant leak, because of too much water condensation on bottom of the car due to air con running all the time.
Although recently when doing oil change, I saw a tiny green coolant leak or bubble like drop on bottom of my AC compressor.
My car is a right-hand drive, Australia left road.
Okay, I would say change the temperature sensor on the engine. When you turn on the AC that isn't even needed. It automatically turns the fan on. Pat, the coolant temperature sensor for the radiator fans is a different system and if that's not working right it won't turn it on
