Hi Scotti
I have a 2021 Sorento. I recently went to the drive-inn at Lake George (Queensbury NY)where the car radio is used for the movie sound. I put the car into Accessory mode and turned on the radio. Everything worked fine for about ten minutes. Then a warning bell went off and a message about battery life flashed on the cars display. The message warned about a ten minute limit on accessories being on without the engine running. Then the radio shut off. We got through the movie by starting up the engine for a few seconds which seemed to reset everything for another 10 minutes. I was able to disable the message in a hidden menu but the radio still shuts off. When I got home put a meter on the battery and measured current and voltage with the radio on in accessory mode. At a moderate listening level the battery current draw was 200ma. The nominal voltage never dropped below 12.7 volts. So this is strictly an arbitrary software limit with no basis on the actual battery drain. I calculated at that rate it would take 10 hours to run the battery down below starting level. My problem is not with missing a good movie at the drive inn but being caught in blizzard. I have been caught in Watertown NY where I have had to pull off the road and was stuck in my car for hours. You don't want to run the engine for fear of exhaust being trapped by the snow piling up but you want to listen to the weather reports.
I called the dealer in the hope they could reprogram something to let the radio stay on. They said no. They told me to trust the Korean engineers. So it looks like I have to pack a boom box with my emergency kit. Is there any hack you know of to allow the radio to work?
Are Kia's the only cars like this. If so please don't tell my wife {black}:sweaty:

Trust the Korean engineers? Are they kidding?
