this started on the highway between 50 and 60 mph.

First I'd check compression to make sure you're not fighting an internal engine problem. (Should be simple to do on that little 4-cylinder engine.)

There are many things that can cause misfires. You'll find troubleshooting information in the site FAQ.

compression low...internal issues..mechanic said not worth repairing/rebuilding because of poor engine design and material. Sad critical flaw by hyundai...and i am out of warranty time to shop.   maybe a honda civic..

That's what I was afraid of. On most 9-year-old cars I wouldn't suggest a compression test first unless it had a million miles, been overheated, or otherwise abused. Hyundais though... I just had a bad feeling about it.

Civic or Corolla would be good choices.  If buying used be sure to avoid years that have inherent problems and of course have a good mechanic inspect any prospect before purchase.

got a decent price on a 2020 civic with 50k miles...however i just found a 2013 mazda 5 with 68 k miles..one owner for 10k,,,thoughts?

If the Civic has the 1.5 turbo engine I'd be leery of it. Also the automatic transmission is a CVT, so regular maintenance is especially important. I suggest doing an internet search for "2020 Honda Civic problems" or search terms to that effect to get a sense of it.

I'm pretty sure that in 2013 Mazda was still partnered with Ford and was using a lot of Ford components. Once again I would suggest doing an internet search to check for failure trends.

(Disclaimer: My daily driver is a 1997 model and I have never owned a vehicle newer than 1999. So I don't have personal experience with late model vehicles like Scotty and most others here do.)

the ciiv is 2.0 l engine..it does have the cvt..it seems all the cars of that size now have the cvt...honda, toyota, hyundai ..no more hyundais please...

Should be OK with the 2.0 engine per Scotty's comments in his videos but yeah most late-model small cars do use CVTs now if they don't have manual transmissions. I think Mazda is an exception. A 2020 Mazda 3 in comparison would have a 2.5L engine and a 6-speed conventional automatic transmission.

sorry for all the questions...but what type of maintanence did you mena "Also the automatic transmission is a CVT, so regular maintenance is especially important."

Ignoring any claims that the CVT is a "sealed unit" and changing the fluid regularly, maybe every 30K-40K miles. (For that Civic, at 50K miles it should be done ASAP if not taken care of already.)

thank you Chuck..... i came across this today 2021 Mazda3 2.5 S 11k miles at a dealer 1 owner...$20,750....a while ago i had a protege lasted 325k miles

Sounds like a possibility, if you like it be sure to have the car thoroughly checked out before proceeding and watch out for dealer overpricing and other dirty tricks.
