I'm am trying to fill my transmission properly on my Infiniti G35 but the dipstick is super confusing. There is no info I can find in the owners or service manual on how to read it properly. I know it needs to be read while hot and on flat ground. Here is a photo of the dipstick. Should I fill between the notches where it says hot or in the crosshatch area?
The unmarked side is your COLD side. The HOT side fluid level is in the crosshatched area. The COLD side level is between the notches.
A video that might help: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=Infiniti+G35+fluid+levels&t=ffcm&atb=v232-1&ia=web

Ok thank you. That makes sense, I wish they would just mark the cold side to make it more clear lol
If life was easy there would be no need for instructions. The problem is they put instructions in so many damned places it makes them hard to find, and follow. Good luck with it.

I believe the picture you shared with us is showing the "Hot" side of the dipstick. On the "Hot" side, you want the fluid to be within the cross-hatched area when the transmission is up to operating temperature. On the other side of the dipstick it should say "Cold", and the fluid should be within the two notches when the transmission is cold.
So I would wait until the transmission is cooled-down to add the fluid until it's at the cold level, then see if the fluid level reaches the cross-hatched area when it gets up to operating temperature. If it doesn't reach the cross-hatched area when at operating temperature, then you should add some more fluid.
You want the fluid to be at their respective levels at the respective transmission temperatures to ensure the transmission operates properly.

Thank you but my issue is that there is no COLD side as you are talking about. The other side is blank with no writing or crosshatch area.
Yes, the side that is blank is the COLD side that uses the two notches for measuring the fluid level. Most of the time the HOT side is only specified and the blank side is assumed to be COLD.
@razmigb
Wow. That IS confusing!
@razmigb
Ok that makes more sense, thank you
