Redo oil change?

I had a dealership change the oil in my 2018 BMW 330i car (28000 miles, Not my daily driver, approximately 2000-3000 miles driven per year)

It requires 0W-20 (BMW 83215A42D32 LL17FE+), but the invoice was coded with 0W-30 (BMW 83215A42D39 LL01FE).
The next day, I called the service representative about the error, and she followed up with the mechanic and parts manager. The following day, she said the mechanic is one of their best, and wouldn’t have put in the wrong oil. The mechanic told her he remembers my car. The parts manager says the invoice was coded wrong. She offered they would redo it at no cost of that would give me peace of mind. Should they redo it? For all I know they may just keep it for 30 minutes and do nothing since they asserted they put in the right oil.

I discovered Scotty’s videos after I purchased the car. Great content. I learned much and watch the new videos daily.

Thanks,

Stay away from the dealer for everything except recalls.

You obviously don't trust the dealer. You shouldn't. Find a mechanic in your area with a solid reputation and build a relationship with his shop.

Any shop that has "their best mechanic" doing oil changes like some flunky at some budget oil change & lube shop can't have very good mechanics. Typically the "best mechanic" does the diagnostic and engine work and is paid much more than the unskilled, entry level "oil change guys"

He was probably one of their best technicians, and not the mechanic. But regardless of what the invoice states, there’s really no way of verifying the correct oil.

Ahahah. The good ole "we put our best man on it" line.

I think you should take them up on the redo AND insist that you want to see them put the oil in. 😆   They'll love that.

You could send it off to a lab like Blackstone but by the time you pay for that and wait for the results you might as well just change the oil again.
