Scotty,
We can all agree that Renault vehicles are piles of junk. I wonder though the US Postal system has millions of them and they keep going; what's the deal here?
im not sure which vehicle you're talking about. The ones ives seen are made by Grumman, they have the old chevy s-10's frame and and motor.
@levidale can you copy and paste your answer into the ‘Your Answer’ section down below? Thank you.
first i ever heard of that. what are they exactly?
Yep I wonder where he did… it sounds too odd to be true.

RNM Alliance commercial vehicle devision already sells their commercial vehicles in the US under the Nissan brand.
These were made by Grumman in the 80's
made of aircraft Aluminum they are Riveted together
Yep and the new ones are going to be supplied by Oshkosh Defense with Ford engines and transmissions (like many other Oshkosh vehicles)
Didn't AM General make a bunch too?
And did Jeep make a bunch?
The Post Office always takes the cheapest bid they put out for their vehicles. Renault won the bid and I can guaranty that they get service maintenance every day just to keep running.
why? I wouldn’t be so sure about that.

Where I live the post system uses mainly Citroën Jumpy and Renault Kango vans - they’re definitely not the cheapest, those are definitely the Toyota ProAce (with a Ford engine) city and the Dacia Lodgy (same engine as the Kango but a ZF automated manual instead and very poor safety)
-
They seem to be very reliable and efficient, you really can’t beat a DV6 mated to a Toyota 8 speed, or a K9K mated to a manual.
-
If I had to chose an inexpensive proper van, I’d chose these two any day.
Except I’d probably chose a Berlingo over the Kango for comfort and the option of getting a conversational automatic and the non “BlueHDI” engine from the Volvo S80.
If you try and polish a turd every day, it's bound to get a little shiny.
If that’s on the topic of PSA commercial vehicles then I don’t believe that’s the case…
Peugeot Citroën know how to build good cars, it just feels like they purposefully chose not to..
Their DV6 (“HDi”) engine (a simple and very reliable SOHC 8 valve turbo diesel) comes in a lot of different modifications and some versions consistently last over 300,000 miles while others consistently last under 150,000 miles.
(It’s so consistent that it just seems like it’s definitely on purpose)
Same with their transmissions, a lot of their cars I’ve seen use terrible Renault DP-series units but other cars of the same model use absolutely great “Robotics” they build in house (EGS6) and some use one of the best small FWD transmissions ever built (Aisin’s TF-70 series)
-
Their new diesel lineup is actually reasonably well built.
When choosing between a last generation Toyota RAV4 hybrid and a Peugeot 3008 Diesel I’d definitely go Peugeot.
Unlike the Toyota DynamicForce the PSA DV6 isn’t a new unproven design and they both have Aisin transmissions
(The RAV4 hybrid has an Aisin eCVT; while the Peugeot has the same Aisin TG-81SC (…F8F35 variant) as the top range 2.5L RAV4)
Where I live the diesel 3008s even hold their value better then Toyota’s RAV4 😅 and it’s really not surprising to me…
(Unlike the 1.6L turbo diesel, The turbo petrol ones don’t hold their values at all, the PureTech is quiet and punchy but it’s just too mechanically weak to last over 125k miles… it’s really sad that they stop making the unfortunately named “EW” engine)
Thanks, I must have been completely wrong...
